How Did I Become A Welder?

Hi, my name is Ashley Dunlap and I became a female welder at 19 years old. I had no idea what I was doing and no one around me showed me how weld or introduced me to it. I just thought it would be good to know.

I liked off-roading and saw all the fabrication and welds on the rock sliders and bumpers. I decided I'd give it a try and fell in love with it.

I took all the classes I could in the welding program from metallurgy to pipe welding. I graduated with a major in welding and my Associates Degree.

For the past two years I have specialized in fabrication and tig welding. I have received my 6G pipe stainless steel certification as well.

When I became a welder, friends and family started giving me their old horseshoes from ranches and rodeos to make them horseshoe products...that's when I realized there is an audience for this.

I love welding, learning, and creating. Which is why I started Ashes Custom Welding, I dove into doing fabricating and welding projects for people so I can use my brain more. I love challenging it.

Speaking about challenging.... check out these pictures below taken in the 1940s

Rosie The Riveter

This my great grandmother. In the picture on the left, she on bottom right. In the picture on the right, she is on the left side.

She was a tig welder in aerospace. A true Rosie the Riveter in WW2. During her senior year of high school, she took welding class and then continued the trade after she graduated.

She married Captain James Ashford in the air force and they made of family of 10. Rest in peace to both my great grandmother and grandfather who paved a pretty serious path for me.

Scan this QR Code to the left and it will take you to a video of my great grandmother talking about her experience in the welding industry when she was a teenager!

First Horseshoe Fair!

This was my first horseshoe event and I am so appreciative of everyone who came, supported, or purchased a product. You guys are all wonderful and I couldn't have done it with out you. Excited for more events coming up!
